She served as the Georgia Press Secretary for the Clinton for President Campaign in 1992, the year President Clinton carried Georgia. David and Caroline moved to Washington in 1992 when Caroline was appointed to serve in the Clinton Administration as Press Secretary to U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. David worked in the Washington, D.C. office of his law firm during that time.

They returned home to DeKalb County in 1994. Caroline served as Press Secretary in Georgia for President Clinton's successful re-election campaign in 1996.
